Understanding politics are not easy, but can be more accessible to people

Ballot Royale is a game designed to engage people in the 2016 primary elections and help them understand the four candidates' points of view on several topics including: abortion, immigration, fracking and gay rights. Participants were given a ballot box and called to vote for their own views on the topics with the cards that correspond to the candidates' views. Each card has a color that corresponds to a candidate's views. In the end, we reveal the colors that match the current presidential candidate's views and participants will discover who's views they matched with the most.

Team: Carmen Tanvi Kareer, Mohammed AlThani and Kendall Murph.

My role: Research and concept development, design and branding.

How to Play

  1. Grab a ballot box.
  2. Uncle Sam will give a statement and four presidential candidate's views on it.
  3. Pick an answer and cast your vote into the ballot.
  4. After all questions are answered, open the ballot and count the cards that you had the most of one color to find out which candidates' views you match the most with.
  5. After we reveal which color matches each candidate, you will find out whose views you matched with the most!

Results

Participants were able to understand how their point of view relates to a specific candidate and even get surprised about what candidates match their own views. It was an engaging and entertaining way to get people involved with the electoral system.

We created stickers for each candidate and provided voter registrations for participants and passer byers.
