Hi, my name is Carmen Lopez and I am a design researcher and social innovator with the heart of an artist. I combine my visual communication skills, design thinking and ethnographic research to create services, products, and relationships with the goal of empowering people and making their lives better.
I am currently a Citizen Designer Now! Fellow with AIGA NY, were I am supporting the development of a community of designers to actively engage in social change.
In May of 2017 I graduated from the Design for Social Innovation Master’s program at the School of Visual Arts, I developed my thesis project called "Karaoke Club", a safe space for immigrants to practice English singing songs.
In New York, I have worked as a designer in projects with Dalberg, United Nations Foundation, Matter Unlimited. I also worked at the Outreach Department of the Brooklyn Public Library, where I was able to develop projects to support and provide services to immigrants, incarcerated individuals and their families, and older adults.
I was a resident at Fabrica, the Benetton Communication and Research Center in Treviso, Italy; and worked at La Facultad in Ecuador, an independent agency focusing on products and campaigns to improve people’s lives.
